9 Arizona Senators Endorse Andy Biggs for Congress

March 2, 2016

PHOENIX (March 2) – In a show of overwhelming support, nine Arizona senators today endorsed their colleague Andy Biggs for Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District.

Senators Sylvia Allen, Nancy Barto, Judy Burges, Debbie Lesko, Gail Griffin, Steve Yarbrough, David Farnsworth, John Kavanagh, and Steve Smith all announced their support for Senate President Andy Biggs in his bid for Congress.

They released the following statements:

Sen. Sylvia Allen:
“It’s been a pleasure to work with President Biggs in the Arizona Senate. Though his leadership will be missed in the Senate, our loss will be the gain of voters in Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District. Andy’s ability to bring people together without compromising his conservative principles will make him an outstanding Congressman, and I have full confidence in the job he will do representing his constituents.”

Sen. Nancy Barto:
“Throughout the years we served together in the Arizona Senate, President Biggs has displayed a quiet and calming leadership that was on display each and every day. His practical, yet principled approach to solving some of Arizona’s most significant issues has led to countless successful outcomes. President Biggs is one of the strongest conservatives that I have been around during my time in the Arizona Legislature, and I can’t recommend him enough to voters in Arizona’s 5th District.”

Sen. Judy Burges:
“President Biggs has fought for years to ensure that Arizona’s Constitutionally-granted rights are not overshadowed by an intrusive and bureaucratic-heavy federal government. His relentless support of states’ rights and the 10thAmendment has earned my strong endorsement for his campaign in Arizona’s 5th Congressional District. I’m looking forward to working with him in Congress to ensure that Arizona can enjoy the freedom of the 10th Amendment to its fullest.”

Sen. Debbie Lesko:
“Since coming over to the Senate, I have had the great opportunity to learn from the leadership of President Andy Biggs. President Biggs is always willing to listen, to bring coalitions together, and to fight for what he believes is the right thing to do. It is no surprise to me to see the outpouring of support and praise for his early candidacy for Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District. He will make a tremendous Congressman, and I am proud to endorse his campaign.”

Sen. Gail Griffin:
“I’m endorsing Andy Biggs for the U.S. House of Representatives because he will be a conservative vote that you can count on. Andy has spent a lifetime fighting for conservative principles, and he has done so in a way that has made his constituents proud of his actions, votes and record.  While the loss of Congressman Salmon will be deeply felt in Arizona and Washington, D.C., Andy is well suited to take his place in the U.S. House and to pick up where Congressman Salmon is leaving off. He will make an outstanding Congressman.”

Sen. Steve Yarbrough:
“I have genuinely enjoyed my time serving with President Andy Biggs in the Senate leadership. He cares deeply about the well-being of his colleagues and of his constituents, and those character traits will do him very well in the U.S. House of Representatives. Andy is a man of his word and a man of great integrity, and the people in his district will quickly learn that they can trust whatever he says or does. I encourage all East Valley voters to get behind his campaign and support his candidacy.”

Sen. David Farnsworth:
“There is no other candidate I can recommend more to replace Congressman Salmon than Andy Biggs. Andy checks all of the boxes of a true conservative, and he does so with strength and humility everyday as our Senate President. I have admired his leadership skills in the Arizona Senate, and I have no doubt that he will put those skills to good use in the U.S. House of Representatives in order to serve his constituents to the best of his ability. Andy Biggs is the right candidate at the right time.”

Sen. John Kavanagh:
“I’m proud to call Andy Biggs my friend and proud to endorse his candidacy for Congress. Andy is a thoughtful and skilled leader who is deeply committed to the conservative cause. Andy Biggs is the right person to send to Washington to continue the fight in place of Congressman Matt Salmon. Andy will be greatly missed at our state’s Capitol but will be a great addition to Washington. I look forward to working with him as the next Congressman for Arizona’s Fifth District.”

Sen. Steve Smith:
“It has been a true pleasure to serve with President Biggs in the Arizona Senate. He is a rare type of leader who can bring people together from all sides to solve the most important issues, without compromising his core belies. I trust that Andy will hit the ground running in Congress and work hard to finally protect our borders, to help our economy get back on track and to reign in the size and scope of our government. I know he will do this because I have seen him do it at the state legislature. I’m proud to endorse his candidacy.”

President Andy Biggs:
“I consider it an honor and privilege to be endorsed by my colleagues in the Arizona Senate. Each one is extremely gifted and principled, and their support of my candidacy is both humbling and gratifying. I thank Senators Allen, Barto, Burges, Lesko, Griffin, Yarborough, Farnsworth, Kavanagh, and Smith for their endorsements, and I look forward to a continued partnership with each of them as we strive to better the lives of all Arizonans.”
