Andy Biggs Signs Taxpayer Protection Pledge
April 18, 2016
Promises to continue to be ‘Champion of the Taxpayer’ if elected to Congress
PHOENIX (April 18) – Senate President Andy Biggs today signed American’s For Tax Reform’s Taxpayer Protection Pledge. He released the following statement:
“Tax Day is arguably one of the most dreaded days of the year. The convoluted IRS tax code has turned into a profitable industry for accountants and a quagmire for checkbooks across the country.
Tax day also reminds each and every taxpayer how painful it is to see so much of their hard-earned money go to a bloated and costly government.
I’ve always believed that hard-working Arizonans should get the most out of their paychecks. That is why I am proud to be recognized as a ‘Champion of the Taxpayer’ by Americans for Prosperity for my efforts in the legislature to cut taxes across the board.
It’s also why I am proud to sign the Taxpayer Protection Pledge from Americans for Tax Reform. This pledge states that should I be given the honor of representing constituents in Arizona’s Fifth Congressional District, I promise to oppose any efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and businesses, and to oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.
At a time when our national economy is still fragile and our national debt is more than $19 trillion, Americans should expect that their elected officials resist the urge to raise taxes in order to fill politicians’ hunger to spend more on government. Instead, Congress should work to decrease the size and cost of government and let the American people spend their hard-working money how they desire. If elected, I will work tirelessly to make this happen, just as my record has demonstrated in our state’s legislature.”
